My name is Ania Charlot, I was born and raised in Haiti. I am an artist and the creative director for Christla. I spent the past eight years living in New York and Los Angeles California working as a model. I love art. I find joy and meaning in expressing myself through photography, fashion, writing and cooking. Christla in Haitian creole stands for Christ is here. Its a childhood name that makes its way back into my life about three years ago. Christla for me represent hope.
The year was Summer 2017, I was in New Jersey visiting my family. It was a rainy afternoon and the wind was strong enough that it caused the trees facing our house to sway. I sat outside just enjoying the cool clean air while enchanted by the sounds of the rustling leaves in the trees. I’ve always been drawn to nature even as a child. Most of my favorite memories growing up in Haiti are when I was in nature on the mountains, at the beach and even visiting my grandparents in the villages. I feel at home when I am in nature. That afternoon, I went back inside the house and I said, “Mom, can you start calling me Christla again?” She looked at me and smiled. At that time I didn't put any meaning into it but looking back at the past three years, every decision I made, every place I have traveled too, most of the people I have met, everything that I took interest in were leading me here.
I am excited to see what CHRISTLA is going to continue to reveal and where it will lead me. I hope you join me.
